Exiftool is meant for a layperson to query and transform metadata without having to be a software developer. You can also write your own logic and specify different conditions across entire libraries of images without having to use any kind of shell scripting. This is true even when roundtripping with another Mac Photos album, let alone something like Google Photos or Flickr! How bizzare is that? Exiftool does more than just read tags though.
The trouble is, when these pictures and videos are exported from Photos, re-importing them doesn’t necessarily pickup the change. Lots of work in many cases, which was already once done in Lightroom. I like that idea of everything organized neatly by time a lot, because that way an album’s story flows well. In order to restore the sequence of events after the import from Lightroom, I copy than the raw files away, use exiftool to adjust the time, set the file timestamp to the EXIF time, and than copy back the raw file to the C1 catalog directory. In any case, by doing this when an album is sorted chronologically, everything appears in order.
